Department of Accountancy and Law
Welcome to the Department of Accountancy and Law website. Accounting was one of the earliest business programmes offered by the Hong Kong Baptist University after its establishment as the Hong Kong Baptist College in 1956. Currently, the Department offers a variety of accounting programmes, including the BBA (Honours) Accounting Concentration, Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, Master of Science in Applied Accounting and Finance (jointly offered with the Department of Finance and Decision Sciences at the School of Business) and Associate of Science in Professional Accountancy (jointly offered with the College of International Education, Hong Kong Baptist University). The Department also participates in the Master of Science in Corporate Governance and Compliance and MBA programmes offered by the School of Business. In addition, it offers research-oriented Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes.
The Department is committed to providing quality accounting programmes aimed at whole-person business education. Our academic staff have received doctoral training with relevant work experience in accounting and law, and most have professional qualifications. They are actively involved in research, with interests in financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, international accounting, accounting education, taxation, corporate governance, commercial law, company law and international business law.
Broad knowledge, professional skills and dynamic pedagogy are emphasised in our teaching and learning activities. Our accounting programmes have been accredited by professional accounting bodies such as the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Managment Accountants (CIMA), CPA Australia, Association of International Accountants (AIA), and Institute of Certified Management Accountants (CMA Australia). Our graduates can work at professional accounting firms, financial institutes, business firms, governmental and nonprofit organisations in Hong Kong and China, and can pursue continuing studies at advanced levels.
This website will provide you with detailed information about the programmes, people, teaching and learning activities of the Department. Any comments or suggestions would be highly appreciated.
